"OOOOO. Effective July 1, 2025, the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) shall increase the vagus nerve stimulator device payment for all acute care hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) which participate in Medicaid. The vagus nerve stimulator device reimbursement rate shall be: (i) equal to 60 percent of the vagus nerve stimulator device acquisition cost; (ii) achieved through an increase to the current add on payment to the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) for providers to use when billing neurostimulator device components for epilepsy diagnosis; and (iii) in addition to the procedure payments already listed in DMAS Outpatient Enhanced Ambulatory Patient Groups Information. The department shall have the authority to implement these changes prior to completion of any regulatory process undertaken in order to effect such change."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $94,516 from the general fund and $109,751 from nongeneral funds the second year to increase vagus nerve stimulator device reimbursement, and to increase access to a device which can help treat a variety of conditions including drug-resistant epilepsy.)
