"AE. Included in the appropriation for this Item is $2,800,000 in the second year from the general fund to provide for costs associated with extending the age that a retired law-enforcement officer covered under the Virginia Law Officers' Retirement System is eligible to recieve an additional retirement allowance from the law-enforcement officer's sixty-fifth birthday to retirement age as defined by the Social Security Act, pursuant to, and contingent upon final passage of Senate Bill 1032 of the 2019 General Assembly."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $2.8 million in the second year from the general fund to cover the estimated costs associated with Senate Bill 1032 of the 2019 General Assembly, which changes the age through which a retired law-enforcement officer covered under the Virginia Law Officers' Retirement System is entitled to receive an additional retirement allowance from the law-enforcement officer's sixty-fifth birthday to retirement age as defined by the Social Security Act. The change aligns the additional allowance with that currently provided under the State Police Officers' Retirement System. The cost estimate is based on a 2016 VRS fiscal impact statement related to an identical bill, SB 168.)
