"2. From the amounts appropriated in this item, $690,000 the second year from the general fund is provided for the acquisition and installation of remote water level monitoring systems at the 69 Soil and Water Conservation District owned impounding structures classified as high hazard.  Beginning July 1, 2020 the Department shall annually allocate $200 per dam for maintenance of the high hazard dam monitoring system."

Explanation

(This amendment provides an increased appropriation of $690,000 from the general fund in the second year to the Soil and Water Conservation District Dam Maintenance, Repair, and Rehabilitation Fund to provide for the purchase and installation of remote monitoring equipment for all District-owned high and significant hazard dams. Impacts of Hurricane Michael and other significant rainfall events have highlighted the need for remote monitoring of District-owned dams. District-owned dams are typically located in remote locations and District staff have difficulty monitoring the dams during storms.)
