Explanation

(This amendment provides an additional $2.0 million the second year from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant to expand workforce training for low-income citizens who meet eligibility criteria as set by the Virginia Department of Social Services across the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Currently, the Virginia Community College System's "Road to Success in Virginia Program" (RSVP) provides job training for TANF recipients at five of Virginia's community colleges (John Tyler, J. Sargeant Reynolds, Central Virginia, Virginia Western, and New River). RSVP helps TANF recipients to earn credentials and training to become financially self-supporting through education and training. The increase in funding will allow the VCCS to expand the program to deliver much needed occupational training, soft skills preparation, career coaching and other supports to help families become self-sufficient and obtain jobs with family-sustaining incomes.)
