"B. Out of this appropriation, $3,000,000 the first year and $1,000,000 the second year from the general fund is authorized for the Department of Fire Programs, in conjunction with the Virginia Fire Services Board, to provide grants for provision of cancer detection to career professional firefighters that are employed as a full-time paid employee of a fire department, state agency, or political subdivision in Virginia. Localities would be eligible to receive $300 per eligible employee to be used exclusively for cancer screening, to include an ultrasound test specific for detecting cancers. The Department is required to assist localities securing testing methods and recipient localities are required to report data to the Department on the screening results."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $3.0 million GF the first year and $1.0 million GF the second year for the Department of Fire Programs to provide grants to localities for the provision of cancer detection to career professional firefighters, with localities eligible to receive $300 per employee to be used exclusively for cancer screening, to include an ultrasound test specific for detecting cancers.)
