"H. 1. The Department of Criminal Justice Services shall convene a workgroup consisting of representatives of the Indigent Defense Commission, Virginia State Police, Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, Virginia Sheriffs' Association, Department of Corrections, and the Compensation Board to examine feasibility, cost, and potential cost savings of utilizing artificial intelligence applications to assist in law enforcement duties and reduce manpower needs surrounding police report preparation, body-worn camera video analysis, and other law enforcement analysis. The Department shall submit a report with its findings to the Chairs of the House Appropriations Committee, Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee, House Courts of Justice Committee, and Senate Courts of Justice Committee no later than November 1, 2025.

2. Included within the appropriation for this item is $200,000 the second year from the general fund to support the workgroup."



Explanation

(This amendment directs the Department of Criminal Justice Services to convene a workgroup to examine feasibility, cost, and potential cost savings of utilizing artificial intelligence applications to assist in law enforcement and reduce manpower needs surrounding police report preparation, body-worn camera video analysis, and other law enforcement analysis. The amendment also provides $200,000 GF the second year to support the workgroup and requires the Department to submit a report to chairs of applicable committees by November 1, 2025.)
