"K. Out of this appropriation, $600,000 the second year from the general fund is provided to establish a confidential Peer Support Helpline for Department of Social Services workers and to pilot and implement the Community Resiliency Model to help with the level of trauma and stress experienced by Department of Social Services workers."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $600,000 GF the second year and 1.0 position to establish a confidential Peer Support Helpline for Department of Social Services (DSS) workers and to pilot and implement the Community Resiliency Model to help with the level of trauma and stress experienced by DSS workers. Funding would be used for (1) a confidential Peer Support Helpline to offer workers “real time” support from retired employees with extensive experience in the agency and knowledge of how to address the stressors of the job; and (2) the pilot and eventual implementation of the Community Resiliency Model (CRM), an evidence-based model that focuses on providing workers with the skills to not only help themselves but to help others within their wider network to stabilize and re-set the natural balance of the nervous system after trauma and/or stress. Specifically, the appropriation would fund a Program Coordinator in the DSS Office of Trauma and Resilience Policy, a team of part-time retired workers to staff the Peer Support Helpline, a team of facilitators trained in the CRM model, and research to measure outcomes related to the program, and related administrative costs.)
