Explanation
(This amendment restores $3,557,937 the first year and $7,170,572 the second year, from nongeneral funds, and 178.50 positions, for St. Brides Correctional Center in Chesapeake. The budget, as introduced, recommended that this facility be closed, effective January, 1999. This amendment restores the necessary funding and positions to ensure continued operation of the facility at full capacity of 540 beds. The nongeneral funds are provided by contracting with other governmental entities for 540 inmates. By restoring funds for St. Brides, 540 secure beds in other state correctional facilities are made available for contract inmates.)
