"H.1. Out of the appropriation for this item, $143,500 the first year and $143,500 the second year from the general fund shall be provided to continue the Keeping Our Kids At Home program in the Roanoke Valley, to contract with community providers for short-term crisis hospitalization of children and adolescents.
2. The Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services shall conduct an assessment of the Keeping Our Kids At Home program to determine the impact of the program in reducing community and institutional costs of care.  The assessment shall also examine the feasibility, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of expanding the program statewide.  The Department shall report on its assessment to the Chairmen of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees by October 1, 1999."


Explanation
(This amendment continues funding for the Keeping Our Kids At Home program and directs the Department to assess the program to measure its impact for possible replication statewide.)
