(This amendment provides $212,000 general fund each year to implement a field training officer program that will formalize and strengthen the on-the-job training program which follows basic correctional officer training. This amendment is a recommendation of the Virginia State Crime Commission study (HJR 465, 1997) on staffing in the Department of Corrections and is intended to improve officer retention.)
