Explanation
(This amendment provides an additional funds each year to expand The Autism Program of Virginia to more fully meet the needs of families with autistic children and professionals who work in the field of autism in the Commonwealth through the development of regional resource centers. The centers will give the program the capability to provide more effective training, technical assistance and information to parents and professionals. The funds also will be used for the development of multidisciplinary standardized protocols for diagnosis and treatment based on outcome-validated research. The Arc of Virginia will coordinate its services with other organizations involved in autism. The budget, as introduced, provides $190,000 each year for the program. The line item has been re-written to include the additional funds proposed in this amendment and to make technical changes and clarifications.)
