Explanation
(This amendment provides $12.5 million the first year and $15.8 million the second year from the general fund to increase Medicaid prospective payment rates for hospital inpatient care for Medicaid enrollees at the University of Virginia (UVA) Medical Center. This rate increase is necessary to fully meet the cost of providing care to Virginia residents who meet the indigent care criteria established for the state teaching hospitals. Medicaid payments, together with indirect medical education and disproportionate share hospital payments, enable the state teaching hospitals to provide care to a disproportionate share of the state's low-income and indigent patients.)
