"H.  Out of this appropriation, $500,000 the first year and $500,000 the second year from the general fund is provided to support the marine debris removal program."

(This amendment provides general funds to continue the marine debris removal program, which was started with federal disaster assistance funds that have been exhausted. The program has resulted in the removal of thousands of abandoned crab pots that would otherwise kill marine life and has provided a large data set on the types of organisms caught in traps throughout the year. The program has also helped employ 70 watermen who were unemployed when the winter crab dredge fishery was discontinued in order to protect the blue crab population.)
