Explanation
(This amendment adds $2.9 million from the general fund and $4.1 million in matching federal and local funds each year to restore one-half of funding reduced from local Departments of Social Services (DSS) in fiscal year 2011 and fiscal year 2012. Funding is provided to local DSS offices to address increased demands for public assistance programs due to the economic recession. Funding will assist local agencies in satisfying existing caseload requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid and children's health insurance (FAMIS) and other public assistance programs.)
