Explanation
(This amendment adds funding to expand the suicide prevention effort in Virginia. It provides $210,000 from the general fund each year for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) to provide suicide prevention training to conduct training events across the Commonwealth in collaboration with the Departments of Veterans Services, Aging and Education, using evidence-based and best practice programs. It also provides $250,000 each year for capacity building grants of up to $25,000 to Community Services Boards (CSBs) or other local community partners to support needs assessments and strategic planning to reduce suicide. A minimum of 10 grants would be funded. It also provides $185,000 from the general fund each year for DBHDS to work with the Virginia Department Health to develop and implement a public education and awareness campaign to understand suicide and suicide prevention. Finally, it provides $100,000 from the general fund each year and one suicide prevention manager to provide training and technical assistance to communities and stakeholders, state-level strategic planning and policy development, and management and coordination of expanded suicide prevention activity with partner agencies and organizations.)
