Explanation
(This amendment provides $1.0 million the first year and $1.0 million the second year from the general fund to the Virtual Virginia. The current program has reached capacity and only a limited number of students statewide are able to access the program. Students are having increasing difficulty taking advantage of these on-line AP and other courses because of the limited enrollment. Also, none of the 13 vendors approved to provide on-line course work under the new Virtual Schools program has proposed to offer any AP, Honors, or advanced courses. Providing additional resources for eligible students to take AP and Honors courses, for which they can receive college credit, is consistent with the Governor's initiatives to have more college degrees awarded and students complete college at a faster pace.)
