“F. Out of this appropriation, $500,000 the first year from the general fund is provided to coordinate the planning and development of the Commonwealth Artificial Intelligence Institute. The coordination of the plan shall involve Virginia universities and public-private stakeholders. To avoid duplication of effort involving state funding, the plan shall take into consideration existing research and research infrastructure, and public and private partnerships, such as the Spark Institute of the Southeastern Universities Research Association Doing Business for Jefferson Science Associates, LLC, the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, and the Monarch Sphere Partnership. The plan shall be submitted for review to the Virginia Innovative Partnership Authority and the chairs of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee and the House Appropriations Committee by July 1, 2027."



Explanation

(This amendment provides one-time funding for planning and startup costs for the University of Virginia to develop the Commonwealth Artificial Intelligence Institute to coordinate with other universities and stakeholders to develop a statewide ecosystem in AI.)
