Explanation

(This amendment provides an additional $8.1 million from the general fund each year to the Safer Communities Program to: (i) add the Cities of Hampton, Hopewell, and Newport News to the list of eligible localities; (ii) increase administrative support for the Office of Safer Communities by $150,000 each year; and (iii) provide an additional $400,000 each year for the existing contract with the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government at Virginia Commonwealth University. The amendment also adds language placing new restrictions on the use of grants awarded from the Safer Communities Program.)
