Explanation

(This amendment provides $1.8 million each year from the general fund and $800,000 each year from juul settlement funds for the the Quit Now Virginia tobacco control program administered by the Virginia Department of Health. Virginia's tobacco control program is facing elimination when its sole federal funding source expires on April 28, 2026, leaving the Commonwealth at risk of becoming the only state without a statewide Quitline. Further, all prevention, cessation and public-health strategies to reduce tobacco and nicotine use would come to an abrupt halt, disproportionately harming uninsured residents and rural communities who rely heavily on these services.)
