Explanation

(This amendment provides $50,000 from the general fund each year for the Department of Education to study, license, and implement a statewide online mental health awareness program for local school division use, to implement the provisions of House Bill 716.

The bill, as introduced, requires the Department to adopt and implement policies that require each teacher, school counselor, school athletics team coach, and school activity supervisor to complete an online mental health awareness training, and to provide such training. The bill permits the Department of Education to contract with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, a community services board, a behavioral health authority, a nonprofit organization, or other certified trainer to provide such training.)
