"L.  Out of this appropriation, $1,185,000 is provided each year from the general fund for the Department of Education to provide each elementary school with one reading diagnostic testing kit.  Such testing kits shall consist of either: (i) the RAN/RAS tests developed and published by Maryanne Wolf and Martha Bridge Denckla, or (ii) a substantially similar reading diagnostic tool that is evidence-based, normed, and approved by the Department of Education."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $1,185,000 in general funds each year to purchase one reading diagnostic toolkit for each elementary school, and is contingent on the passage of House Bill 332. The bill, as introduced requires a reading diagnostic test that includes a rapid automatized naming/rapid alternating stimulus (RAN/RAS) component, to be administered to certain elementary school students to screen for dyslexia and related disorders. The cost for each toolkit is $165.)
