Authority: Discretionary Inclusion.
A. This appropriation represents the Commonwealth of Virginia's contribution to the Southeastern Universities Research Association Doing Business for Jefferson Science Associates, LLC, for the support of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) located at Newport News, Virginia. This contribution includes funds to support faculty positions and industry-led research that will promote economic development opportunities in the Commonwealth.
B. Out of this appropriation, $1,250,000 the first year and $1,250,000 the second year from the general fund is designated to provide funding to expand a center for nuclear femtography in partnership with the Commonwealth's research universities. Nuclear femtography is expected to be the next generation of nanotechnology.
C. This nonstate agency is exempt from the match requirement of § 2.2-1505, Code of Virginia and § 4-5.05 of this act.
D. Out of this appropriation, $2,500,000 the first year and $2,500,000 the second year from the general fund is provided to the Southeastern Universities Research Association Doing Business for Jefferson Science Associates, LLC to support research and development activities associated with risk reduction experiments for a potential electron ion collider project. This funding shall remain unallotted until the Governor authorizes their disbursement to the Southeastern Universities Research Association Doing Business for Jefferson Science Associates, LLC.
