"WWWW.  The Department of Medical Assistance Services shall modify regulations to facilitate the enrollment of United States military health care providers residing in the Commonwealth of Virginia as Medicaid providers, if requested, as long as the provider possesses a National Provider Identification (NPI) number, is registered in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) and has Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number. Requirements to provide Social Security numbers and dates of birth shall be waived as long as the provider can document the possession of an NPI, PECOS and DEA number. The department shall have the authority to implement the necessary changes effective July 1, 2017 and prior to the completion of any regulatory process to effect such changes."

Explanation

(This amendment adds language requiring the Department of Medical Assistance Services to include U.S. military health care providers as an enrolled Medicaid provider, if requested, as long as certain criteria are met. Currently, few military health care providers volunteer to obtain a Medicaid Provider Identification number due to requirements to provide Social Security numbers and dates of birth, despite being vetted by the U.S. military and possessing military security clearances. Language provides the agency with the authority to implement this change on July 1, 2017.)
