Page 382, after line 6, insert:

"E. The department is directed to utilize amounts provided in this item for Interstate maintenance to erect signs along the Commonwealth's Interstate highways at such points where the maximum allowable speed limit increases to 70 miles per hour warning drivers that under the provisions of § 46.2-862, Code of Virginia, driving in excess of 80 miles per hour is considered reckless driving, regardless of the speed limit.  To prioritize placement of such signs, the department shall work with the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine locations where the largest number of reckless driving tickets are issued within the 70 mile per hour zones."



Explanation

(This amendment directs the Department of Transportation to erect signs on Interstate roadways at such points where the maximum allowable speed limit increases to 70 mph notifying driver's that Virginia law considers driving above 80 mph to be reckless driving regardless of the roadway speed limit.)
