"9.a. Out of this appropriation, $5,000,000 the first year and $5,000,000 the second year from the general fund to be allocated to cover 50 percent of the costs of body-worn camera systems by local law enforcement entities. No locality should be entitled to more than 25 percent of the total amount, and the Department shall take into account population, need, geographic distribution, and whether or not the locality has instituted a body-worn camera policy in the past, with no discrimination against those localities which have previously instituted a body-worn camera policy.

b. Collections of asset forfeiture funds appropriated in Item 397 of this Act that are not obligated for other purposes shall be provided to offset the Commowealth's share the local purchase of body cameras by local law enforcement."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $5 million each year for DCJS to distribute to local law enforcement agencies to reimburse up to 50 percent of the cost of body-worn cameras.)
