"E. Out of this appropriation $100,000 each year from the general fund shall be provided for an Addiction Psychiatry fellowship program to provide quality training and experiences in addiction and substance use disorder that meet the requirements of fellowships accrediting body with the goal of practicing within the public sector upon completion of the fellowship.  The fellowship shall provide an optional second year elective with a primary focus on research in addiction or public sector behavioral health.  The program shall include a provision for the fellows to provide tele-psychiatry consultation across the Commonwealth.  The Department of Health shall collaborate with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine and the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine to design and implement the fellowship program."



Explanation

(This amendment provides funding to support a fellowship program in Addiction Psychiatry to provide appropriate experiences with residential, outpatient, consultation, medication assisted treatment, the impaired physician program and related research programs. Funding for the program shall be housed in the Virginia Department of Health's higher education student financial assistance programs, however, the department shall collaborate on the development of the fellowship program with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the schools of medicine at VCU and UVA.)
