"Y. Out of this appropriation, $2,000,000 the first year and $10,000,000 the second year from the general fund is provided establish a fund that would will be used to support efforts to attract, train, and retain quality teachers in hard-to-staff schools.  The competitive grant program combines improving professional teacher development with performance-based teacher and principal compensation systems in high-need schools.  The fund is modeled after the competitive federal Teacher Improvement Fund established in 2006."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $2.0 million the first year and $10.0 million the second year from the general fund to establish a fund that would pay grants to teachers and principals in hard-to-staff schools.)
