Page 353, after line 17, insert:
The Commissioners of the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Transportation shall study the relocation of the truck weigh stations on I-64 in Henrico County and conduct the preliminary engineering of the location identified by the Commissioners as the best location for these facilities following completion of the ongoing site selection process currently being conducted by DMV and VDOT.  The preliminary engineering and study shall also address the location and design of new rest area/welcome center(s) in the Richmond/Williamsburg region.  Consideration in the location and design of a new rest area/welcome center shall be given to the utilization of "mobile" welcome center(s), a rest area in closer proximity to the Jamestown/Williamsburg area, and the renovation of the gateway and tourism center at Exit 78 on I-95.  Such review of Exit 78 shall consider the Society of Landscape Architects' report titled 'Vision for the Boulevard' and the approved master-plan of the City of Richmond.  Funding required for the study shall be from Federal Transportation Enhancement Funds and preliminary engineering funding shall be considered by the Commonwealth Transportation Board ."


Explanation
(This amendment directs the DMV and VDOT Commissioners to study and conduct the preliminary engineering for the relocation of the truck weigh stations on I-64 in Henrico County to the location identified by the Commissioners as the best location for these facilities following completion of the ongoing site selection process currently being conducted by DMV and VDOT. In addition, the study shall examine the use of "mobile" welcome centers and the renovation of the gateway and tourism center at Exit 78 on I-95. The completion of the study should identify the necessary improvements for enhanced services to those visiting both the Jamestown/Williamsburg and Richmond regions.)
