"Out of the amounts appropriated, $50,000 the first year and $50,000 the second year is provided from the general fund for the expansion of the National Health Service Corp - Virginia Loan Repayment Program to include mental health professionals.  The Department shall expand the program by seeking approval from the participating federal agency to include psychiatrists and other mental health professionals as defined by the National Health Services Core, including doctoral clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurse specialists, and marriage and family therapists as those eligible for participation in the National Health Service Corp - Virginia Loan Repayment Program.


Explanation
(This amendment provides funds for educational loan repayment for mental health professionals who agree to practice in health care shortage areas. Federal matching funds are available from the National Health Service Corp.)
