Explanation
(This amendment provides federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) funding to support competitive grants for family support and interaction programs for incarcerated persons. The funds could be used to leverage volunteer activity and expand programs to meet the needs of non-custodial parents who are incarcerated, which could include parenting skills training, anger management, and literacy skills to maintain and enhance family connections and prepare these persons to re-enter society successfully. This is a recommendation of the HJR 683 (2001 Session) Special Task Force Studying Ways Faith-Based Community Service Groups May Provide Assistance to Meet Social Needs.)
