Explanation
(This amendment provides funds to expand an existing federal-state scholarship and loan repayment program for physicians who agree to work in a health professional shortage area to include mental health professionals. The program offers loan repayment up to $50,000 for a minimum two-year commitment. The amount of funding would enable the program to support four additional psychiatrists or several other mental health professionals, due to their generally lower loan obligations.)
