Explanation

(This amendment provides $50,000 each year from the general pursuant to legislation to be considered by the 2024 Session of the General Assembly which would direct the Department of Juvenile Justice to convene a workgroup to further study the research and evidence relied upon by the Department when amendment its length of stay guidelines in 2023. The established work group would study and review staffing ratios; the ability for Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center to staff the community treatment model and all therapeutic, education, and vocational programs; the rates of serious incidents at Bon Air since January 2022. The workgroup will include key stakeholders including youth advocates, representatives from the Indigent Defense Commission, and the Disability Law Center. This amendment is a placeholder until a fiscal impact statement for the legislation is provided.)
