"V. Out of this appropriation, $9,200,000 the first year and $18,600,000 the second year from the general fund is provided to fund the costs of extending the eligibility of the Fostering Futures program to youth 23 years old and younger."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $9.2 million the first year and $18.6 million the second year from the general fund to fund the costs associated with extending the Fostering Futures program to allow youth up to 23 years of age to qualify. Currently, the federal Fostering Futures program ends at age 21, and in fiscal year 2023, 251 youth exited Fostering Futures at age 21. This extension would allow more individuals to qualify for the monthly maintenance payment of $811. This amendment corresponds with House Bill 1313 of the 2024 General Assembly.)
