Explanation

(This amendment provides $600,000 each year from the general fund to create the Office of Children’s Ombudsman pursuant to Senate Bill 146. The office will investigate complaints, conduct advocacy, and provide information for children, parents, and citizens involved with child-serving agencies, as defined in the bill. The bill provides that the office will be part of the executive branch with the ombudsman appointed by the Governor. This amendment is included under the Department of Social Services as a placeholder and will be moved to the correct item when the Senate Finance Committee reports the budget bill, as appropriate.)
