"I.  Out of this appropriation, $1,000,000 the first year and $1,000,000 million the second year from the general fund is designated to support the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center's partnership with the regional shipbuilding and ship repair industry in order to develop the Virginia Digital Shipbuilding Workforce Program.  The purpose of the program will be to create an open-source curriculum in digital manufacturing and shipbuilding with specific tracks for engineers, designers, skilled craftsmen, and information technology professionals.  This funding would supplement curriculum development funds received from GO Virginia and allow the curriculum to be tailored and implemented across K-12 and higher education partners statewide.  Funding may also be used to assist with the building of laboratories in multiple locations and marketing digital shipbuilding efforts in Virginia.".

Explanation

(This amendment provides $1.0 million GF per year to support the Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center's (VMASC) partnership with the regional shipbuilding and ship repair industry to stand up the Virginia Digital Shipbuilding Workforce Program (VDSP). VDSP will create an open-source curriculum in digital manufacturing and shipbuilding with specific tracks for engineers, designers, skilled craftsmen, and IT professionals. This funding would supplement curriculum development funds received from GO Virginia and allow the curriculum to be tailored and implemented across more K-12 and higher education partners statewide, assist in lab build-out in multiple locations, and allow for national branding and marketing of Virginia as a leader in digital shipbuilding.)
