(This amendment increases scholarships available to students for the top five critical teaching shortage disciplines and for minorities in any content area. The primary purpose of the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan program is to provide financial support as an incentive to students who are pursuing a teaching career in one of Virginia's critical teaching areas. Since FY 2008, the appropriation has been $708,000 per year. Scholarship amounts are based on $10,000 per year for full time students and pro-rated for part-time students. In FY 2016, there were 76 scholarship recipients. This amendment would allow an increase in the number of scholarships and the amount provided.)
