Explanation
(This amendment provides funding of $2,121,614 in FY 2018 to reimburse counties that were affected by the decision by the State Board of Elections to decertify Direct Recording Electronic voting machines in September 2017. Localities had previously been operating under a deadline of July 1, 2020 to replace their DRE machines; the decision to decertify the machines in advance of the 2017 election required localities to procure new machines ahead of schedule and in many cases in the middle of the fiscal year. Counties included in this request are Buchanan, Sussex, Nottoway, Lee, Greensville, Russell, Dickenson, Rappahannock, Madison, Tazewell, Prince Edward, Culpeper, Gloucester, Surry, Washington, Bath, and Cumberland. This item is not set out in SB 29. It is the intent of this amendment that the Item would be set out during enrolling.)
