"B.1. The Chairman, Virginia Parole Board, is authorized to work in cooperation with legal aid clinics at schools of law located in the Commonwealth to conduct research on sentencing guidelines and how those guidelines relate to the time served by offenders housed in state correctional facilities who are parole eligible, and for whom the conviction for which they are incarcerated occurred before January 1, 1995.
2. Included in the appropriation for this item is $25,000 the first year and $25,000 the second year from the general fund for activities conducted pursuant to paragraph B.1 of this item."
Explanation
(This amendment authorizes the Virginia Parole Board to work with legal aid clinics to research criminal sentencing guidelines, and the amount of time served by parole-eligible individuals convicted before January 1, 1995 who are still incarcerated in Virginia correctional centers. The amendment provides $25,000 each year from the general fund for this purpose.)
