Explanation

(This amendment provides $1.2 million each year from the general fund to the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services to expand the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. This amendment would assist the program in reaching the staffing standard set in the Code of Virginia of providing one ombudsman for every 2,000 licensed nursing home and adult care residence beds in the community. Funding would cover about 50 percent of the costs to fully meet the staffing standard. This level of staffing has been recommended by the National Institute of Medicine. Funding will also support four state-level staff to provide oversight, policy guidance, training and technical assistance to the local ombudsmen and to work on statewide long-term care policy issues.)
