Explanation

(This amendment provides $1.8 million the first and $1.2 million the second year from the nongeneral funds for the fiscal impact of House Bill 1174 which clarifies that newborn screening tests performed on infants shall include screening for Pompe disease, mucopolysaccharidosis type 1 (MPS-1), and other lysosomal storage disorders for which a screening test approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration exists. The source of the nongeneral funds would be an increase to the fee charged to medical providers for the screenings and covers additional lab equipment, and personnel costs to perform the necessary tests, develop education materials and train health care providers.)
