Explanation
(This amendment provides an additional $75,000 the second year from the general fund to the Jobs for Virginia Graduates (JVG) initiative. The additional funding will restore a portion of the $135,263 that was cut in House Bill 1600. JVG is a statewide program that helps at-risk high school students - mainly seniors - to graduate and obtain a job. Lessons taught by career specialists included on-the-job training, developing a resume , and basic job competencies. Once students complete their studies and are placed in jobs, JVG Career Specialists will track graduates for a year to ensure they become "fully entrenched in the work force." JVG is a proven drop-out prevention intervention that returns to the state 2.75 times the cost required to support the program. JVG is highly accountable and has repeatly won the Jobs for America's Graduates 5 of 5 Award.)
