Explanation
(This amendment provides general fund support to initiate the dredging of five navigable streams and rivers surrounding Mathews County by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This funding will be used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in concert with currently appropriated federal funds to dredge the following: Davis Creek, Winter Harbor, Horn Harbor, Milford Haven, and Queens Creek. As a component of this dredging work, spoils will be used to protect eroding shorelines surrounding New Point Comfort Lighthouse and Gwynn's Island pursuant to a previously developed plan by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. The use of the dredge spoils in this fashion will both protect property and public safety, and eliminate a need for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to find locations for the deposit of future dredge spoils.)
