Explanation
(This amendment provides $23.0 million from the general fund and an equal amount of federal Medicaid matching funds in the second year to increase services provided under the mental retardation (MR) waiver program by 670 slots. Language setting out the number of MR waiver slots is modified in both the Department of Medical Assistance Services and the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services to reflect the total appropriations and number of community slots available in the biennium for the MR wavier program. The introduced budget provides $5.2 million from the general fund and an equal amount of federal matching funds in the second year for 170 additional MR waiver slots. The combined total of 840 new MR waiver slots would serve roughly one-half of the urgent care waiting list as of December 2006. A companion amendment in item 312 provides start-up funding for the 670 new waiver slots.)
