Explanation
(This amendment reduces general funds by $100,000 the first year and $100,000 the second year by level funding Project Discovery at the fiscal year 2006 amount of $800,000 each year in the biennium. Project Discovery funding from the state provides about one-half of the total operating budgets for 19 participating community action agencies that provide students in grades 4-12 with assistance to ready them for some form of post-secondary education. Project Discovery basically provides the same type of service that school guidance counselors provide to students to assist first generation students to attend college. Students also receive a similar type of service through the Education for a Lifetime initiatives.)
