Explanation
(This amendment reduces $400,000 the first year and $400,000 the second year by level funding Project Discovery at 50 percent of the fiscal year 2006 amount of $800,000 each year in the biennium. This action will begin to phase out the program that is duplication of what some other programs are currently supposed to be doing for at-risk students. Project Discovery funding from the state provides about one-half of the total operating budgets for 19 participating community action agencies that provide students in grades 4-12 with assistance to ready them for some form of post-secondary education. Project Discovery basically provides the same type of service that school guidance counselors provide to students. Students also receive a similar type of service through the Education for a Lifetime initiatives.)
