"C.  Out of this appropriation, $289,303 the first year and $289,303 the second year from the general fund is provided to add positions at seven field offices, one each in Big Stone Gap, Cedar Bluff, Wytheville, Charlottesville, Petersburg, Northern Virginia, and Williamsburg.  These new positions, funded by taxable revenue, will generate over $18,238,000 in additional federal benefits for Virginians, or $530 for each general fund dollar spent by the Commonwealth on benefit claims support in fiscal year 2001."

(This amendment provides additional general fund support to the Department of Veterans Services for the addition of staff positions in certain field offices. The salary and fringe benefits for the addition of a single claims agent equal $41,329 per year. It has been reported that for each general fund dollar the Commonwealth spends on veterans assistance services, $530 in federal benefits is collected. This amendment supports the purposes expressed in House Bill 1774 and Senate Bill 1092, approved during the 2003 Session of the General Assembly.)
