Explanation
(This amendment restores $200,000 general fund in the second year for the Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP) of Virginia for case management services. The introduced budget reduced $467,544 in general funds for the program in the second year and substituted federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) block grant funds. A portion of the general funds for CHIP of Virginia are used to match federal Medicaid funds to provide case management services to pregnant women and young children who are Medicaid recipients. The TANF funds cannot be used as match for other federal funding, such as Medicaid. Case management services improve health outcomes and decrease health care costs by ensuring access to comprehensive, coordinated care.)
