Explanation
(This amendment provides $37,500 the first year and $75,000 and three (3.0 FTE) positions the second year from the general fund for the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). A companion amendment to Item 461 in Senate Bill 29, as introduced, provides funds to purchase and install software required to expand the use of the AFIS system from criminal fingerprint checks to other requests for fingerprint checks from public and private schools, community services boards, home health organizations, and other agencies. Currently, fingerprint checks for these agencies are processed manually, and as a result there are lengthy delays in providing the service. When the software is installed, three positions will be required to respond to the requesting agencies within 72 hours.)
