"H. Out of this appropriation, $218,688 the first year and $226,874 the second year from the general fund is provided to contract with the Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging for the development and implementation of an educational and informational program designed to increase public knowledge of end-of-life care issues, and to increase public awareness and utilization of advance care planning and advance directives.  The Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging will work in collaboration with local Area Agencies on Aging to implement and operate the program.  From the total amount of funds provided, each local Area Agency on Aging will receive $5,000 for community outreach and education.  The Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging will provide the Department for the Aging with an accounting of the funds and initial report on the status of the program prior to December 1, 2000, and a follow-up report on the status of the program prior to December 1, 2001.”

Explanation
(This amendment provides funds for a program designed to increase public knowledge of end-of-life care issues, and to increase public awareness and utilization of advance care planning and advance directives. This is a recommendation of the Joint Commission on Health Care.)
