"L.  Out of this appropriation, $400,000 the first year and $400,000 the second year from the general fund is provided for summer research internships for students from first generation, low income, or under-represented groups, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity, in the disciplines of the colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Architecture and Urban Studies, Arts and Sciences, Human Resources and Education, Natural Resources, and Veterinary Medicine.  Of this amount, $60,000 in each year is provided for room and board for the interns, and $40,000 in each year is provided for recruiting and retention efforts.  Administration of the program shall reside in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  Students at Virginia State University may also participate in this program, under guidelines set forth by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  The scholarhip component of this program is set forth in Item 240 of this Act."

(This amendment increases funding for the student internship component of a program to increase underrepresented students in particular programs at Virginia Tech. Currently, funding of $232,500 in each year is provided for both the internship and scholarship program. A companion amendment to Item 240 provides additional funding for the scholarship component of the program.)
